Technical Support and Lifecycle Management

The U.S. Army contracted General Dynamics Land Systems for technical support and lifecycle management for the M1 Abrams tank.

The U.S. Army management command in Warren, MI, awarded the Sterling Heights-based General Dynamics Land Systems with the contract for engineering studies on the Abrams tank, the company announced.

The $58 million contract funds engineering studies on the Abrams battle tank to find potential improvements. The program also funds the replacement of obsolete parts in order to keep the tank battle-ready.

General Dynamics has played an “integral role” in the combat vehicle program for the U.S. Army. Chrysler Defense designed the tank in 1979 and it is currently produced by General Dynamic Corp. in Lima, Ohio.

The engineering work will take place at the Sterling Heights facility of General Dynamics Land Systems.
